We deliberately put personal branding on bonus because we believe this need more more research to be precise. We all need personal branding because somehow content creator, YouTuber, Instagram influencer is a legit career. Personal branding is a process which validate someone’s value whether its character or skills to shape others perception. In this social media era, personal branding is needed since people could easily share their value on their personal page of social media. These branding are used to build their followers perception and gain recognition to get it monetize. Every social media based entrepreneur must have at least some kind of personal brand in order to succeed. According to Peter Montoya (a personal branding guru) there are eight characteristic to follow if you want to get a positive perception in regards of your personal branding. This can also be applied to any digital content you have.
 
  1. Specialization

In this point, specialization is build on ability, behavior, lifestyle, mission, product, profession and service. This also pointed on someone’s achievements in their past life which impacts their ability and strength to face particular obstacles in the future.

2. Leadership

Having power and credibility will enhance someone’s personal branding because people (or community) tend to put their trust on people with power. This quality will gain your personal branding altogether.

  1. Personality

With a great personality someone will easily build their personal branding. Avoid being plastics or fake (or copying others content) because people will found out somehow and it will crush what you’ve been built all these time.

  1. Distinctiveness

Your character should be the one that make it different with others. Being disruptive in positive terms is good this will be useful to distinguish and build perception why people should prefer to your brand instead of other brand.

  1. Consistency

Building your own personal brand is not an easy way, it doesn’t build overnight — but being consistent on your visibility is. To be visible, you need to combine your capabilities with a great marketing strategy. Yes, marketing is also needed on your personal branding.

  1. Law of Unity

If you want to be a positive influencer, align your life and moral with the brand you intended to. Your personal life (or anything that you share on media) should be in line with moral ethics should be balance with your surroundings.

  1. Persistence

Enjoy the process, it takes time. Follow the trend to gain idea however, jumping into something that is not in line with the personal brand is not recommended. Be authentic and never trying to copy others. 

  1. Law of goodwill

If you build the positive one you’ll get a positive rewards. Stick to it. Authenticity, consistency and active presence are the key points to success on social media.

In conclusion, build a positive personal branding to get positive rewards needs time and careful planning. You need to find what you like and what you are so your content is original. Being consistent, and unique at the same time should lies on appealing factor to followers and helps the person to grow, and thus to succeed. If one’s personal brand or the way of doing is inconsistent, that hardly attracts audience that is willing to be committed. As you make yourself being ‘marketed’ you also need to take a SWOT analysis — to identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. If you want to be a content creator, the SWOT analysis will help you find the right content to brand yourself. Take example, Jade Darmawangsa — she is a great content creator which focus on personal branding. Though some of her podcast is considered explicit (because might contains swearing) she build her image as a millennial who gives advice to find their own persona. Since she is a part of millennial (or simply saying a teenager) too, she knows what the trends, the circumstances and what words to use to make young people easily understand. Her mission is also consistent through all her platform which make it easier for people who doesn’t into every social media platform.
 
These tips on social media branding for personal use is also beneficial to try:
  1. Keep your followers updated from various platform. Don’t stick yourself on Instagram. Spread your connection through many platform. But, if you need just one (because you think you have potential engagements through that platform) it is okay. You can focus your energy into it.
  2. Connect with influencer, make friends with them and study their behavior. If others call you social climbers — it is okay too. Tagging people will make connection and showing you are friendly (or approachable)
  3. If you can’t teach yourself producing content on your own, make a curating account as a way to show your interest. Don’t forget to credit the original makers. Or if you uncomfortable with that, you can take digital courses (some of them are free)
  4. Keep your content consistent, create a schedule to post what you like or what you think on a regular basis. You need to know what ‘the best time’ to post on any platform — it might not work but surely it helps to find your own ‘best time to post’ to your audiences.
  5. Always be positive. We know that some people are being famous by being rude but if you are a first starter spreading a positive vibes will never go wrong.
Professionally, personal branding is the accumulation of many image that people see of you. It can be a combination of how they look at you in real life, or how the media portrays you, or the impression that people gain from the information about you available online. You probably thinking that your personal branding will develop organically but you need to understand that social media can also make your image out there beyond your control or chaotically. With personal branding you can help deliver the message you want to depict you as the person you want to be. In professional world, personal branding is needed to present yourself into potential clients. It gives you the opportunity to ensure that people see you in the way you want them to, instead of in some blurry or destructive way. Personal branding can also gives you the opportunity to highlight your strengths and your passions. It helps people able to put higher trust in you even they have never met you personally.
