Small Business Needs Branding Strategy Too! #Kreatalks

Some of us might think that branding is only for big brands with a wide consumer base, such as Adidas, Spotify, or Chanel.

Small Business doesn’t need that.

“We don’t have the budget” “Quality is our main priority” “Let’s just focus on the products”

But that’s not true. Branding for small businesses is not less important. Any business, whether small or giant one, can benefit from a strong solid branding.

What is Branding?

Branding is somewhat familiar, we heard about it all the time. But, what is Branding actually? Branding is the whole process of creating a strong, positive perception of a company, whether it is products or services in the customer’s mind, by combining such elements as logo, design, mission statement, and a consistent theme throughout all marketing communications.

What is Small Business?

A business which defines on a small scale level involves less capital investment, less number of labor and fewer machines to operate is known as a small business. Small businesses are the type of industries that produce goods and services on a small scale. These industries play an important role in the economic development of a country. The owner invests once on machinery, industries, and plants, or takes it as a lease or hire purchase. These industries do not invest more than one crore. Few examples of small-scale industries are non-franchise coffee shops or bakeries, local food sellers, nail artist saloons, etc., industries that are mostly settled in an urban area as a separate unit.

What is Branding For Small Business?

Most small businesses only rely on a single or two product or service, it is indeed quite hard to define a brand. But, you don’t have to settle for a plain character  when you can give your business an unique and creative identity by developing a solid brand.

Whether you’re just building a small business or already have one, here are some ways to turn your company into a brand that people remember.

How to Branding Small Business

Start With A Memorable Name

“Name is just a name until it is everything” Perhaps true, but in business, particularly if you were building a brand, name is extremely important. Name is your most valuable asset yet a descriptor that allows people to make quick judgments and assumptions about you. It has to be able to communicate your brand essence, trigger an image, and gain a positive emotional connection. You also have to make it easy to remember, and stand out from your competitors. Least but not least, create a name that can easily interpret it, say it, spell it, or Google it.

Yes, a good name, is a must.

Pick a Colour Scheme and Good Logo

Colour and Logo are more than just aesthetic appeal, colours will help your brand connect with consumers on a deeper psychological level. When you choose your logo and brand’s colour palette, you’re also selecting the emotions and associations you’re seeking to evoke.

You need to know your target market before creating a visual identity such as colour scheme, logo, typography, and creative design.

Just because you run a small business doesn’t mean you don’t need to be concerned about visual identity, remember that humans are visual creatures. But somehow, anything about design is beyond your ability. Hiring a branding agency sounds like a good idea if you don’t know how to translate your brand identity visually. Set your branding budget if you want to seek the experts’ help.

Develop A Brand Voice

Brand voice, it is a media that your audience can get to know and understand your brand, as you create a dialogue. It is the chance for you to express your brands’ unique persona and seamlessly build up relationships with the audience. If visual identity is consumer-oriented, brand voice is company-oriented. As a small business, you need a character too. Do you want something smart? Something helpful? Or something fun? Start with your business’ mission or value statement. Establishing a unique brand voice is key to helping your business rise above the din of a crowded marketplace.

Social Media Presence

Social media has an advantage over TV, radio, magazines and other traditional media platforms. With social media, you can spread information about your business in a quick and cost-efficient manner and potentially reach millions of people with your message. Social media presence is the best way to win your potential customers’ heart. Create creative contents, pay attention to trends and use influencers if it’s possible.

Consistency

Not much explanation here. Consistency, will always be the key.

Conclusion

Branding is an essential component of small business marketing, there are tons of coffee shops out there, tons of bakeries out there, tons of nail art artists and local food sellers as well, but with the right branding strategy, it will raise awareness that your brand exist and will build credibility and trust so that more potential customers seek out your product or service.
